Drag the icon with print production to the bar on the right. Choose "output preview" after opening this tool. In the window that has just opened see figure 1 , change your " preview " to " color warnings ". Then check the box "show overprinting". Once you've done this, you will notice that all areas for which you have used overprint have been replaced by the selected color in our case green. To do this, open your file in Adobe Illustrator and select the object in which overprint was used. In this window you can uncheck the box next to overprint.
Notice the difference between the following two examples:. As you can see, when used intentionally, overprinting can add extra visual interest and even textural interest to your finished pieces. Overprint settings need to be corrected before your piece goes to print, so that you notice any potential overprinting problems early on in the process.
Know that if you use a blend mode like screen or multiply or add transparency to spot swatches, you may get unexpected results. Overprint Preview mode will produce a good visual estimate of how your piece will look when it prints with the selected overprint settings.
Overprint Preview is still a great method to preview your piece and double check the visual display of your settings before sending a job to print.
Anything in your document over will appear in the selected color based on this dialog screenshot, that would be green. The circle will no longer be cut out of the rectangle in the preview. A printing press transports a flexible carrier, such as paper or foil, at high speed. This results in slight shifts between the application of two different inks. This is called press misregistration.
For example, if we knock a blue text out of a yellow box to avoid getting a green text, the blue words will be outlined with white lines, as you can see in the picture on the right. Of course, there are ways to avoid the white outlining, which we will tell you all about in the next blog post!
